The Artwork

Inspired by the Black Cockatoos of Australia, I wanted to paint something fun and a little different. This version is on a Navy background for those who want a richer colour.

The Artist

Why do you create? I have always created, I think it is in my blood as my mum is a painter too. I create to relax, or express thoughts and feelings. I create to make pieces that make me and others smile.
How do you work? I work mostly in watercolours and acrylic inks on paper. I then ensure my art is print ready using digital software.
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? Originally I only painted in Acrylics on board or canvas. I started Zen drawing in ink for a few years whilst I moved countries. Now I am back in Australia and inspired by the wildlife and vibrancy of colours all around me, which has led me to using more Watercolours and Acrylic Inks. I used to do mostly commissions, but now I sell fine art prints through my website, Facebook and Instagram, and of course beautiful canvas, wood, acrylic and framed fine art prints through Artify.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? I am a part time artist, hoping one day to be a full time artist.
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? I love to travel. I recently spent 2 years living in the UK and travelling in Europe. I am now back in Australia and exploring my new city and surroundings. When I'm not painting or exploring, I'm usually found in the kitchen.
What inspires you? I'm inspired by nature, by my garden and it's inhabitants. I'm also inspired by home decor.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? I'm told by my parents that the first art I created as a child were cartoon characters on the wall behind the sofa. My first memory was also of cartoon characters, however on paper not the wall!
Name three artists that you respect? Vanessa Perske (Brisbane Australia), Bansky (because of his wit) and the early Australian Impressionist painters who captured the light of Australia in their paintings.
What is your favourite piece of artwork? Bluey my cockatoo painting
What is your dream project? Being a full time artist
