The Artwork

The Artist

Why do you create? I create because it gives my mind some peace, it settles my worries and gives me great joy.
How do you work? Working through the twilight hours is when my best work has been created.
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? When I was very young I couldn't draw a thing, but with many years of practice, paired with a college education in graphic arts, I've gone from doodles on the side of worksheets that to this day I can't determine what it was I was drawing, to devoting hours of my nights each week to creating what ever sparks itself inside my mind.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? Unfortunately I am a part time artist, as the bills need to be paid.
What inspires you? Inspiration generally comes from pain, which is a horribly clichéd thing to say. In moments of sadness, an idea of a project is the light that pulls me from my own darkness.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? Oh unfortunately I am in possession of my first piece. It was a very cartoonish moose, standing in a forest. The frame was hand made out of running boards and decorated with wax crayons. I cringe every time I see it.
What does the term art mean to you? Art to me is simply the physical form of emotion or thought.
Name three artists that you respect? Emily Carr, of who's work I have been ogling for many years. Andy Warhol, who inspired so many artists in his time, and most of all I respect Frank Johnson, a member of the Group of Seven.
What is your favourite piece of artwork? A painting named "heaven in her arms" depicting an angel holding an infant. Unfortunately I do not know the name of the artist, but I do own a print of it and enjoy it every day.
What is your dream project? My dream project would be to spend a month hiking through the Rockies with my camera, capturing the journey through the trees and rocks.
