The Artwork

On a very misty day, I approached the Brecon Beacons. Not the best weather conditions for landscape photography, one should think. However, I recognised some very interesting motifs in the slightly gloomy atmosphere. As if the scenery wanted to reveal something different than the usual high-sun lighting. Instead of the broad panoramic views, I focused on the compositions that emerged from the mist, and somehow the depth was much more outstanding in that light.

The Artist

Why do you create? I create because that's how I'm created.
How do you work? I'm a photographer. I see things, both things that exist and things that don't. And then I try to communicate it.
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? Today I take the role of an observer, rather than try to manipulate things into shape as I used to do.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? I'm a full-time photographer and a part-time artist.
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? In my workshop where I create concrete lamps.
What inspires you? Nature, humans and especially the symbiosis of the two.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? A picture of a fence in my hometown.
What does the term art mean to you? To me, it's a way of communicating. Art is a sort of spiritual way of making yourself understood.
Name three artists that you respect? Ansel Adams, Irving Penn, René Magritte, M. C. Escher and Mark Rothko. Oops, that was four...
What is your favourite piece of artwork? Black on maroon by Mark Rothko
What is your dream project? Making the perfect picture
