The Artwork

The morning cold made appear the hoarfrost but still let some colours visible

The Artist

Why do you create? Creativity has always been a part of me, a couple of decades ago I liked to express life's beauty through drawing, painting and airbrush techniques. Nowadays I use my digital camera which allows for instant capturing this beauty of life.
How do you work? Photography became a passion, meaning that whenever possible my eye looks through the camera's viewer to capture that special view, object, living thing, ... .
For each image shot follows a digital postprocessing using - those which suits best the purpose - different imaging software (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aurora, Lumiinar, Nick plugins)
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? Starting some 35 years ago with handcrafted "artwork" using pencil, charcoal, paint- & airbrush as instruments I switched over to digital art (photography) because travelling worldwide for my job turned the camera into the perfect tool to be creative.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? I really enjoy the freedom of being a 'part-time artist'.
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? Hiking and wandering around are things that are very complementary with carrying a camera. The time I don't take photo's, I spend with my wife and family, read and enjoy being retired.
What inspires you? There is not much that I think isn't worth getting inspired by ... the beauty of nature, all creatures great and small, street life, architecture, seasons, objects, ... In each of these subjects is something that sooner or later catches your eye ... and looks interesting or amazing. That's what most of the time triggers my inspiration.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? The pencil drawing of my youngest daughter done in September 1987 was the first artwork I felt proud of.
What does the term art mean to you? Art is a term that covers many things, 'touching' people in a different way. Amazingly interesting for one person and maybe very boring for another. Each inner feeling expressed using wathever media can be artistic.
Name three artists that you respect? Rembrandt - Michelangelo - Rodin
What is your favourite piece of artwork? The Night Watch
What is your dream project? Photography trip to the National State Parks in the USA (Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, ...)
