The Artwork

This is the first artwork I created for my "Year in Japan" series. The original was created using Copic markers and coloured pencil. The work depicts a lone figure riding through a Tokyo street at sunrise. I chose to use a limited palette for this work to give it warmth as well as enhance the look of the sunrise. My style has evolved since this first piece, making it more unique. The series I created captures fleeting moments in time, with each work also representing a single month of the year. This work is one of the summer months. I love comic book style illustrations and animation so wanted to create an artwork in a similar style. I love Studio Ghibli films and also wanted to capture an everyday scene in Japan.

The Artist

How do you work? I work from home at my desk. I create works on paper with Copic markers and pencil so I do not need a proper studio for that.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? I'm a full time artist.
What inspires you? Japanese animation, architecture, design, nature
Name three artists that you respect? Gustav Klimt, Monet, Van Gogh
