The Artwork

I did this drawing for a friend's wedding. They are extreme sports fan's and gave me a list of crazy activities to illustrate. One of them was Triathlon. I wanted to communicate the speed and intensity you may experience when cycling in a sport competition.

The Artist

Why do you create? I create to visually communicate fugitive emotions
How do you work? I sketch and walk around outside, sketch again in my studio, do some visual research on the internet, go outside again, sketch again, make a composition on paper, then on photoshop, draw my composition on paper using pencil, colour areas that are not meant to be black first, then use black ink for outline, cut shapes of areas I don't want to have splashes and splash a lot of ink using my fingers...
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? Yes - I sometimes reposition the splashes digitally.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? I have a full-time artistic life and soul.
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? Creating websites and apps for start-ups and medium sized business.
What inspires you? Cities, observing people going on with their lives.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? Skinny cats dressed up like fashionistas.
What does the term art mean to you? Communication between minds.
Name three artists that you respect? David Downton, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali.
What is your favourite piece of artwork? The Wedding Candles by Chagall
What is your dream project? A comic book based on my great grand father history. He was a revolutionary Russian aristocrat who ended up in France after fleeing Russia using smugglers without any money and travelling the world in the 1920's when working on a liner. He then became resistant during WW2 and was shot but survived and came back home after several years of amnesia.
