Lalo's Story

Why do you create? I have always thought that being born and spending my first years in Veracruz has influenced me, making me realize the world from an eyes that allow me to see beyond reality, intermingling with magic, witchcraft, monsters, ghosts and the natural forces endowed with their own personality.
How do you work? My process of creation almost all my pieces is: plan the idea (what I want to do and what for), conceptualize it (with sketches, photos, videos, etc., everything which helps me to better shape it), make a model of composition and execution until I get the image that I have in mind, apply color, and at the end apply effects and detail color tones. Since the sketch in my mind until the final result.
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? Yes, it is constantly evolving. Now I focus much more on the details to achieve the most faithful to what I imagined originally in my head.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist?Full-time, because I think that an artistic work is not limited only to the time of execution, if not from the instant that the inspiration comes and that can happen at any moment.
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? I also work as graphic designer at an advertising agency; I love cinema, the gastronomy, traveling and I confess myself as an addict to the TV series.
What inspires you? The atypical, the bizarre, the things in which I can decipher charm and interesting details, even if they do not show an apparent common beauty.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? A Greek bust that I did when I was 8 years old, I remember that I even sold it to an Aunt Grandma.
What does the term art mean to you? A code, a own language, through which come to light ideas, concepts and symbolism, a particular way to see the world.
Name three artists that you respect? Jorge González Camarena, Luba Lukova, José Luis López Galván
What is your favourite piece of artwork? "La fusión de dos culturas" (The fusion of two cultures), Jorge González Camarena
What is your dream project? At this moment, my dream project would be making collect action figures like art object with several of my characters.
