Sonia's Story

Why do you create? I create because it is what freedom means to me. I want to make things, create things, build things , it gives me comfort and bliss .Something I can do without having any rules to it , you just create .
How do you work? I have always been a creative person , since I was in school. I recently started again , with watercolors and just love it. I am also a jewelry designer and maker as well , mainly working with wires.
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? I find that I work in phases . I have my wire-sculpting phase, my jewelry phase, painting phase, writing phase so yes, it changes when I fancy it . As I grow older, I want to do more , learn more , try more , and so am always aiming to better myself at all that I do.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? A full time artist . I am creating something or rather ,every single day .
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? I love playing with my children. They bring me more joy than anything else ever could. We paint together , or play with clay together . Build together , laugh together and just have happy times together. I love family time , with my husband and children. Nothing comes close to it.
What inspires you? I am very much inspired by emotions. Seeing it in others , as well as myself. Also , I love trees, flowers , the mountains and the birds ..Nature in general , awes me endlessly.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? I made a vase in the shape of a hand . As though the hand is what's holding the bouquet . I believe I was 10 when I made it .
What does the term art mean to you? Art means freedom from rules. Plain and simple. No judgement , no care , just create.
Name three artists that you respect? Leonid Afremov, Sheri Chakamian , Banksy
What is your favourite piece of artwork? Leonid Afremov's "Away From The Sun". I can stare at it forever .
What is your dream project? To create a mixed media sculpture that represents the strength of women .
