The Artwork

Lush fronds of birdsnest ferns in rainforest wilderness, at Foxground, near Kiama, NSW.

The Artist

Why do you create? To reveal the poetic nature of the world, the extraordinary that exists in the ordinary.
How do you work? I mostly spend time in nature, bushwalking, camping, seeking amazing places and things to capture with my camera, waiting for that brief, all-too-fleeting moment when the light is 'right'.
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? I'm always seeking to improve the quality of the production process to ensure that the the final printed photo is worthy of the effort that has been made to get to remote places and capture the image in the first place.
you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? Full-time
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? Architecture and landscape design, and selling antique maps and prints.
What inspires you? Nature, art, life! Not to mention good books, design, travel and close friends!
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? I used to play in my father's dark room when I was 15. I can still remember doing an all-nighter, as the sun came up, thrilled and obsessed as I was, with all my beautiful black and white prints laid out on the garden steps. (Quality control would come later!)
What does the term art mean to you? Creativity, design, 'seeing', loving life!
Name three artists that you respect? Hirishoge, Van Gogh, Lars Van de Goor
What is your favourite piece of artwork? The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai
What is your dream project? To be ensconced on a mountain in South-West Tasmania for weeks alone, safe and comfortable in warm weather (yes, dreaming!) taking photos.
