The Artwork

For me, this piece is about beginnings. It's been borrowed for good luck, and appears to have served a great and mighty purpose.

The Artist

Why do you create? I create because it brings both release and enjoyment. I also create because I feel instructed to do so. It isn't always for me, but for the end user; the person that the piece is meant for.Every now and again, I'll create something just for my family, but 90% of the time my work is commissioned by the universe.
How do you work? In complete solitude and with a clear mind.
Has your creative process changed over time, if so, how? Yes! I now have a little one cheering on every brush stroke. Room is made for her to observe.
Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time artist? I am a full time artist. The impulse to create can come on at any given time. So I've got to be in a position to receive.
Besides creating, where else do you spend your time? I am a pastry chef. So the kitchen is my second home.
What inspires you? Every single thing in human nature and our surroundings.
What is the first piece of art you remember creating? The striped piece in my store. It was electric and remember wanting to paint all night on that same canvas. Lots of good feelings came with creating that painting.
What does the term art mean to you? Art means inspired action.
Name three artists that you respect? Gerard Richter for the simplicity and beauty in his work.
Alexander McQueen for his innovation, detail, and boxy.
The lady at the local flea market for her humility, generosity, and sheer love of her craft.
What is your favourite piece of artwork? A ceramic Christmas tree my mother sculpted. The detail, imagination, and skill it took to bring it to life is phenomenal. She is very talented.
What is your dream project? Creating paintings peacefully with hundreds of people that understand what I do and why and wish to experience the bliss of creating for a particular stranger. It ill be a masterclass where connection through creating if the focus.
